Springfield-based national nonprofit Fight Colorectal Cancer reached a financial milestone for its largest fundraising event.
The annual Climb for a Cure fundraiser in 2023 brought the cumulative tally to the $1 million mark after eight years of the event, according to a news release. Fight CRC held featured mountain climbing events in California, Colorado and New York, and participants could climb on their own to raise funds from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Climb for a Cure this year raised $238,924, said Fight CRC spokesperson Elizabeth Jordan via email.
"The climb was started by survivors and family members wanting to show that we can move mountains when we believe in a cause and come together as a community. The community’s unwavering dedication to this cause is inspiring," said Anjee Davis, president of Fight CRC, in the release. "The $1 million raised will propel us closer to our mission to find a cure for colorectal cancer.”
Fight CRC relocated to Springfield in 2016 from Alexandria, Virginia, according to past reporting.
