The Springfield Esports Coalition has landed a championship event a year after the organization was formed.
The coalition, formed by the Springfield Sports Commission, won its bid to host the Missouri Scholastic Esports Federation Fall Brawl Championship, according to a news release. The event is scheduled Dec. 1-2 at The Riff, part of the Classic's Complex on West Sunset Street that also houses Classic Rock Coffee.
Officials estimate the MOSEF Fall Brawl Championship will generate a $45,000 economic impact on the local economy.
"Our vision for the Springfield Esports Coalition is to tap into the thriving esports market,” said Lance Kettering, executive director of the Springfield Sports Commission, in the release. “Securing the opportunity to host this event demonstrates the recognition of our enthusiasm and commitment. We're excited about this collaboration with MOSEF and look forward to a future filled with more esports opportunities for our community."
Two video game competitions for Rocket League and Overwatch 2 are slated to be held at the esports event.
"The Springfield Sports Commission is at the forefront of supporting and hosting scholastic esports. Witnessing Missouri's students compete at the highest level on the grand stage in Springfield is a moment we eagerly anticipate," said Tony Gragnani, president of MOSEF, in the release.
The Springfield Sports Commission formed the Springfield Esports Coalition in December 2022 with representation from its board of directors, along with the support of Contender eSports LLC, according to past reporting.
Moseley’s Discount Office Products was purchased; Side Chick opened in Branson; and the Springfield franchise store of NoBaked Cookie Dough changed ownership.
