Springfield engineering firm CEO buys into Joplin business

Posted online

The CEO of a Springfield engineering firm is among the new owners of a Joplin flooring business.

Jerrod Hogan, CEO of Own Inc., has purchased Joplin Floor Designs Inc. with his wife, Melissa, and Samuel Wimsett and Christina Williams, according to a news release.

"Jerrod’s role for JFD will be executive oversight and assisting with setting goals and strategy for growth, while providing valued industry connections," officials said in the release.

Duane and Holly Hukill, who led the company for 30 years, sold the business in the deal that closed Oct. 13. The financial terms were undisclosed in the release.

Wimsett, the owner of a portfolio of rental properties in southwest Missouri and Bentonville, Arkansas, is leading the day-to-day operations at Joplin Floor Designs while working with Duane Hukill on the transition, according to the release. All staff have stayed on board.

Started as Hukill Furniture and Carpet in Seneca in 1962, Joplin Floor Designs sells carpet, hardwood and tile products, among others, according to its website.

Melissa Hogan owns and manages two Joplin-based companies, and Williams works at Joplin architecture firm Corner Greer & Associates, according to the release.

Earlier this year, Jerrod Hogan and the team at Own rebranded from Anderson Engineering Inc., according to past reporting. The company has an office in Joplin at 811 E. 3rd St., according to its website.
