Black Market Smokehouse LLC
Friends since they were teenagers, Scott Pitts and Jason Delcour partnered to open Black Market Smokehouse LLC on July 18 at 603 S. Kimbrough Ave. Another longtime friend, chef Wes Johnson, formerly head chef of Metropolitan Farmer, also joined the staff of six. The 50-seat eatery has a menu that will change with the seasons, Pitts said, with a variety of standard smoked meats, and some occasional less familiar options, such as rabbit and alligator. “We’re trying to introduce people to a different level of barbecue,” he said. A late-night menu was introduced in mid-September to appeal to college students and the nearby downtown crowd. Black Market Smokehouse is on a five-year lease for an undisclosed rate with Marilyn Starnes-Biggs in the site that formerly housed Purple Burrito. Pitts said startup costs were $25,000-$30,000.

Longitude LLC
Dustin Myers and Jeremy Wells, each with a background in graphic design and branding work, officially joined forces Aug. 29 to start Longitude LLC, a branding agency. The company, in which the two partners are the lone employees, specializes in brand development, strategy, video production and photography for small- to midsize businesses and startups. Longitude formerly existed under Myers since 2010, Wells said, but the two friends decided to move forward in business together and form an LLC after working on some common projects, including the Ozark Mill business venture of Johnny Morris. Wells, who formerly worked on his own with Wells Innovative LLC, said no financial transaction occurred with him coming on board. The company moved Sept. 28 to 334 E. Walnut St., Ste. B – the former home of Mostly Serious LLC, where it is on a one-year lease with Nick Sibley for an undisclosed rate. Wells said minor renovations, such as painting, are yet to be tackled, but he expects startup costs to be $5,000-$7,000.
