Missouri Democrats sue over lieutenant governor appointment

The Missouri Democratic Party filed suit in an attempt to block Gov. Mike Parson's appointment of Mike Kehoe as lieutenant governor.

The suit opens up a longstanding debate over whether the governor can appoint a lieutenant governor.

The lawsuit points to a clause in the state constitution that says the governor can fill vacancies "unless otherwise provided by law." Another state law says the governor can make appointments with exceptions, which include the office of lieutenant governor.
