Jamaican Patty Co. plans downtown shop

Posted online

Jamaican Patty Co. is planning to add a shop in downtown Springfield.

Du'Sean Howard, who owns the restaurant venture with his wife, Latoya, said the goal is to open the eatery at 301 Park Central West "within the next two months." It would be the company’s second location.

"This location is great," Howard said via email. "We think that our food is perfect for people walking about and on the go. We also see this as an opportunity to add some additional flavor downtown."

Declining to disclose startup costs, Howard said the business penned a lease for undisclosed terms to occupy 1,500 square feet. KOJO LLC owns the building – Greene County assessor records show – that has housed Hurts Donut Co., self-serve yogurt shop Fria and candy store Queen City Soda & Sweets.

Jamaican Patty Co. has offered authentic Jamaican cuisine in Springfield since 2008. The restaurant is located at 3439 S. Campbell Ave. and also has a food truck, according to past reporting.

The restaurant serves a variety of Jamaican patty sandwiches, as well as vegan options and a catering menu, according to its website.
