A longtime Springfield architect who co-founded Hood-Rich Inc. has died.

Jack Hood, 90, died Oct. 12, according to his obituary posted to GormanScharpf.com.

"This year we celebrate 60 years of success that is largely due to the effort and personality of Jack Hood," Hood-Rich officials said in a provided company statement. "Everyone who knows him talks about how much they respect Jack. He was a good architect and an even better human being. He will be greatly missed."

Hood co-founded Hood-Rich in 1963 with Don Rich, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting. In the early days of the firm, it completed designs for hotelier John Q. Hammons, and Hood-Rich went on to develop a niche in hospitality and other industries, including government, religious institutions and education.

“We were involved with him starting out in the hotel industry," Hood said of Hammons in a 2013 SBJ article. "We did a lot of his Holiday Inns, and we were in development with him on the atriums. It soon caught on.”

Hood's civic work included board stints with the Council of Churches of the Ozarks and Systematic Savings Bank, and he was a member of the Rotary Club, according to his obituary.

A memorial service for Hood is scheduled 2 p.m. Oct. 22 at Campbell United Methodist Church, 1747 E. Republic Road.
