Frontier adds flights at Branson Airport

A year after making its return to Branson Airport, Denver-based Frontier Airlines is adding more flights.

Frontier this morning announced the addition of nonstop flights to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and Chicago O’Hare International Airport from Branson Airport, starting May 1, according to a news release.

The new paths double the amount of direct flights available at Branson Airport to four. Frontier last year launched flights to Denver, and Via Air operates an Austin, Texas, route, according to the airport’s website.

“We are thrilled to grow our presence in the Branson area and Ozarks region with the return of our summer Denver service and the addition of two new cities,” said Jonathon Nield, senior manager of network planning for Frontier Airlines, in the release. “The Chicago and Dallas-Fort Worth communities will now have convenient and affordable access to the many attractions Branson has to offer.”

The new Frontier flights at Branson Airport help fill a void left by Silver Airways. The airline in August 2018 canceled plans to enter Branson Airport, offering daily flights to New Orleans International Airport, Houston’s Intercontinental Airport and O'Hare International Airport.

Frontier returned to the airport last summer after discontinuing service in 2014. After Frontier and Dallas-based Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV) left Branson Airport in 2014, the airport relied largely on charter flights, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.
