A band organized by Ava-based Teen Harvest plays underneath the American flag Sept. 11 during 9/11 remembrance activities on Park Central Square. Dubbed the Why I Love America rally, the public event was organized by local musician Bob Mondy. It included speeches, music and prayer on the 16th anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States.

Ozarks Food Harvest and iHeartMedia’s 19th annual Hungerthon raised $135,209 Sept. 8-11 for The Food Bank’s Weekend Backpack Program. Above, hosts Kevin Howard and Liz Delany of 105.9 KGBX tally the funds along with Bart Brown and Denise Gibson of OFH. With this year’s results, 451 at-risk children will have nutritious meals to take home every Friday after school.

Presidential Preparations
Crews set up a tent in the Bass Pro Shops parking lot in preparations for the Sept. 20 private debut of Wonders of Wildlife. Invited guests include former Presidents George W. Bush and Jimmy Carter, professional fishermen Bill Dance and Jimmy Houston, NASCAR drivers Tony Stewart and Martin Truex Jr., and musical acts by Kevin Costner and Luke Bryan. The aquarium and museum reopens Sept. 22.
