Staxx, Jellybeans moving from Farmers Park

Springfield businesswoman Meghan Chambers is relocating her two retail shops from south-side development Farmers Park.

A mid-June opening for clothing retailer Staxx and children's boutique Jellybeans is planned in a combined 7,500 square feet at 2630-32 S. Glenstone Ave., in Brentwood Center North, Chambers said this morning.

Staxx and Jellybeans are among a handful of tenants that have recently relocated or announced moves from Farmers Park. Most recently, The Press Coffee & Juice Bar announced it would move by the end of June to 2710 S. Glenstone Ave. in Brentwood Center North. Ellecor Design and Gifts, the first retailer to open in Farmers Park in February 2014, and 417 Salon also relocated to new homes, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting.

For Staxx and Jellybeans, Chambers said the companies and its employes are “recreating, reinventing, taking what we’ve learned the last 15-plus years and really fine-tuning it, whether it be with services or layout.”

“We really worked hard to encompass all those things that we think we can build upon,” she said, “whether that’s making things easier to shop or more efficient.”

It’s also prompted by a need for more space, as the shops operate out of roughly 5,000 square feet in Farmers Park. Declining to disclose sales, Chambers said revenue increases are being driven by online purchases, as well as such products as jewelry at Staxx and tween clothing and toys at Jellybeans.

“It’s been a high demand for Jellybeans since Toys R Us has gone out,” she said. “For Staxx, we’re expanding our jewelry department and fine-tuning some of our lines and doing a little bit of a broader mix of our apparel.”

Staxx and Jellybeans will operate out of a single space, though they’ll clearly be delineated within the building, Chambers said, noting the businesses will be located next door to The Market home goods store at the north end of the Brentwood Center. At their current home at 2144 E. Republic Road in Farmers Park, the businesses are in adjacent storefronts with separate entrances.

JaredCommercial.com lists an asking lease rate of $22 per square foot annually. Comparatively, leases at the newest building in Farmers Park range from $16.50 to $19 per square foot annually, according to a listing from SVN Rankin Co. LLC. Chambers declined to disclose lease terms.

The move to the Brentwood Center also comes as Staxx and Jellybeans celebrate milestone anniversaries, at 15 and 25 years, respectively. Chambers founded Staxx and in 2010 purchased Jellybeans, which has twice operated in the Brentwood Center. Staxx started downtown in 2004 and moved to the French Quarter on Republic Road before the relocation to Farmers Park in 2014, according to SBJ archives.
