The Missouri Department of Economic Development’s Division of Workforce Development awarded $5.1 million to 186 companies across the state for training assistance.
The amount of funding being provided to each company was not disclosed in a news release, though the latest round of funding is expected to train 17,090 workers. DED officials could not be reached by deadline for individual award amounts.
The funding through the state’s Customized Training program helps companies train new and existing employees. To qualify, companies must create new jobs above their peak employment level in the past year or retrain employees as a result of new capital investment.
“Not only will this funding help Missouri workers gain new skills, it delivers value to Missouri businesses in an area of critical need — the availability of a quality workforce,” Gov. Mike Parson said in the release. “By helping businesses train new and existing workers, we’re helping them stay competitive and remain here in Missouri.”

"Together these partnerships result in timely, flexible and cost-effective job training resources as they address Missouri businesses’ varying training needs. The program also ensures that Missouri’s workforce receives state-of-the-art skills training required to retain their jobs and be competitive in the labor market."
