Pyramid Foods sold 10 of its area pharmacy operations to Walgreens.

The pharmacies at Springfield, Nixa, Ozark, Republic, Carthage and Joplin stores closed yesterday, when customers’ files were transferred to nearby Walgreens stores, according to a news release. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Walgreens does not plan to operate Pyramid Foods' in-store pharmacies.

Pyramid Foods spokesman Charlie Dunn said the sale allows the grocery store operator to update food-related services including curb-side pickup, online shopping and delivery, as well as add UPS shipping containers and dry cleaning.

“This was a strategic decision to allow Pyramid Foods to enhance market offerings with other services,” he said via email.

The affected Pyramid Foods stores, as well as the Walgreens where prescription files transferred, are below:
    •    Price Cutter, 2021 W. Republic Road, to Walgreens, 2681 W. Republic Road;
    •    Price Cutter, 4228 S. National Ave., to Walgreens, 1349 E. Republic Road;
    •    Price Cutter, 335 N. Nolting Ave., to Walgreens, 1930 W. Grand St.;
    •    Price Cutter, 1901 E. Division St., to Walgreens, 1140 E. Kearney St.;
    •    Price Cutter, 5504 N. 17th St., Ozark, to Walgreens, 1675 W. South St., Ozark;
    •    Price Cutter, 400 N. Massey Blvd., Nixa, to Walgreens, 106 N. Massey Blvd., Nixa;
    •    Price Cutter, 1013 U.S. Highway 60 E., Republic, to Walgreens, 1050 U.S. Highway 60 E., Republic;
    •    Price Cutter, 1850 S. Maiden Lane, Joplin, to Walgreens, 1605 W. 7th St., Joplin;
    •    King Cash Saver, 1707 W. Battlefield Road, to Walgreens, 2951 S. Campbell Ave.; and
    •    King Cash Saver, 1223 W. Central Ave., Carthage, to Walgreens, 2737 S. Grand Ave., Carthage.

Dunn said the company continues to operate 10 pharmacies, including one in Springfield at the 3260 E. Battlefield Road Price Cutter.

He said the company also plans to add pharmacies in the Branson, Lebanon, Neosho and Purdy markets. A timeline and the number of new pharmacies has not yet been determined.

“We see these markets as strong potential company and pharmacy growth areas,” Dunn said.
