The Ozarks Technical Community College Board of Trustees yesterday swore in new member Paula Adams to replace attorney Chip Sheppard, who resigned.
Adams, president of Penmac Staffing Services Inc., was tapped to serve the remainder of Sheppard’s term through April 2020. She’ll then be eligible to run for the seat if she wishes, according to OTC spokeswoman Laura French.
Sheppard, shareholder with Carnahan, Evans, Cantwell & Brown PC, cited a need to “drop some responsibilities” in a statement provided by French.
“I am just buried right now with other responsibilities and the horizon looks like even more coming,” said Sheppard, past chairman of the OTC trustees board. “This is the first to go because it is such a smooth sailing vessel, I am least needed here.”
In a statement, OTC Chancellor Hal Higdon said Sheppard agreed to rejoin the OTC Foundation board in lieu of his trustees board post.
"Chip’s service on the board of trustees has been exemplary in every sense of the word. His leadership of the board during the recent successful tax levy campaign was tireless and inspiring,” Higdon said in the statement.
In addition to his law work, Sheppard is a board member for New Approach Missouri, one of the organizations with a ballot initiative this November designed to legalize medical marijuana in Missouri.
The Republic School District is on track to open its Intermediate School for fifth- and sixth-grade students for the 2025-26 academic year.
