O’Reilly Hospitality’s latest north-side hotel opens

Springfield’s blazing hotel development market continues to heat up.

O’Reilly Hospitality Management LLC yesterday opened its latest property, a Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott franchise at 2455 N. Glenstone Ave., according to a news release.

The company’s fourth Springfield hotel and its first Fairfield, the 103-unit property replaced a former Budget Inn, which was demolished in 2014, according to city building permits.

The Fairfield is next door to O’Reilly Hospitality’s DoubleTree Hotel by Hilton, where a convention center expansion is underway. The additional convention space, which will replace the DoubleTree’s western parking lot adjacent to Aldi, will hold 500 people and bring the total convention space to 20,000 square feet.

O’Reilly Hospitality also is working on a Holiday Inn Express & Suites at 3050 N. Kentwood Ave. next to its Macadoodles store near North Glenstone and Interstate 44. Owner Tim O’Reilly also purchased a downtown building at 430 South Ave. with plans to open a boutique hotel under the Moxy brand, but no building permits have been filed. O’Reilly could not be reached for comment by deadline.

For the Fairfield hotel, O’Reilly Hospitality brought on Killian Construction Co. as general contractor for the property designed by Hood-Rich Inc. The nearly 57,000-square-foot hotel had an estimated cost of $6 million, according to a city building permit.

O’Reilly Hospitality joins hotelier Earl Steinert’s EAS Investment Enterprises Inc. in bringing some 200 rooms to market in the last two months. In December, Steinert launched the 99-room Home2 Suites by Hilton Springfield North behind his Hampton Inn & Suites.

Springfield Business Journal previously reported another 400 hotel rooms are in the works in the Queen City. Properties include the north-side SpringHill Suites by Marriott and Vib by Best Western on East Sunshine Street, according to SBJ reporting.
