Whiskey Tango
After renovations at the former Parlor 88, 1111 E. Republic Road, Ste. 180, Whiskey Tango opened Aug. 18. Stephen Williamson, who co-owns the bar and lounge with his wife Karen, on May 31 purchased Parlor 88’s assets, including tables, chairs and booths, for an undisclosed price. Williamson said he signed a multiyear lease for the 4,700-square-foot space with Gallery Eleven LLC via John Haik, with options extending up to 12 years. He declined to disclose lease rates and startup costs. The concept has a “speakeasy vibe,” Williamson said, with the menu heavy on appetizers, such as andouille corn dogs, sliders and tacos, along with cocktails, wine and beer. Almost all items are priced under $10. “We’re trying to appeal to a multidemographic community,” Williamson said, noting there are 14 employees. The business name was inspired by Williamson’s military background as an Army pilot in the late 1980s, he said.

Maaco Collision Repair and Auto Painting
With 20 years of experience in the automotive industry, Michael Bryars opened Maaco Collision Repair and Auto Painting on Aug. 20 at 431 W. Bryant St. As a Maaco franchisee, Bryars said he invested roughly $400,000 in startup costs, including Maaco’s repair and painting equipment. The 11,250-square-foot shop offers collision, paintless dent and glass repair, auto painting and cosmetic repair of dents, chips and scratches. The business is on a 15-year lease for an undisclosed amount with David Wells of Cambridge Marketing Group Inc. Maaco Collision employs 12, and Bryars plans to add more as business grows on the shop’s 3-acre lot. “I believe this is a fast-growing area that’s underserved for this service,” he said. Cambridge Motor Sports previously operated in the building, Bryars said. Additionally, on June 30 Bryars purchased the Maaco Collision center at 1405 W. Chestnut Expressway from Robert McLaughlin for an undisclosed price.
