Open for Business: The Dress

Posted online

The Dress
New owners are in place at The Dress, a bridal boutique just off the square at 318 Park Central East, Ste. 106, in The U. Hannah Moreno said she bought the 6-year-old shop Aug. 1 from founder Raven Cotton for $195,000. Cotton said she desired to devote more time to her other business, Park Central Market, which she co-owns with her husband Scott and Mark and Rebecca Martin. Moreno said she signed a 10-year lease for $2,000 per month with Tim Roth of The Vecino Group for the ground-floor space. She added she bought about $10,000 worth of furniture upon taking over. Roughly 120 dresses, including new and consignment pieces, are in stock, with prices between $500 and $2,200. The boutique also sells dresses online. Moreno said annual revenue, which reached $305,000 in 2017, is on pace for $330,000 this year. A staff of three works with Moreno at The Dress, her first venture into ownership, following a stint in sales at Central States Industrial and work in insurance.

Midwest Supply
With nearly 80 years combined experience in the building industry, Shaun Massey, Neil Brock and Jeremy Atchley joined forces June 1 to open Midwest Supply, 6987 State Highway C in Strafford. At the former Strafford Building Supply property, which closed in 2008, Atchley said the new business sells lumber, windows and doors, with delivery services and installation offered as well. The Midwest Supply showroom and warehouse is roughly 20,000 square feet, with another 15,000 square feet devoted to storage, Atchley said, noting the owners gutted and remodeled the showroom building. He said startup costs were around $750,000, and the owners are on an open-ended lease with LaFollette Enterprises LLC for $3,500 a month. With 11 employees, the store features Sierra Pacific Windows and Kayu International Inc. hardwood products.
