Breathe Salt Vault
Halotherapy, also known as dry salt therapy, is on tap at Breathe Salt Vault, which opened Jan. 5 at 1730 E. Republic Road, Ste. R. Husband-and-wife owners Ryan and Kim Gardner signed a lease with Green Circle Projects LLC for 1,267 square feet in the Southgate Shopping Center. Kim Gardner, the lone employee, declined to disclose lease terms or startup costs. In two on-site vaults, pure-grade sodium chloride is heated and ground into dry aerosol microparticles by a halogenerator machine that can be safely inhaled. She said halotherapy is used for general wellness, skin conditions and respiratory issues. Prices start at $25 for a 30-minute session, with six-session packages offered for $100 and 20 sessions at $400. Gardner said wellness classes for yoga and meditation also are offered. Her first salt room experience was at a Las Vegas spa, while vacationing in November 2017, to treat a persistent cough.

1984 Branson
A new decade has dawned with the April 20 opening of 1984 Branson at 4240 Gretna Road, Ste. 4240, in the Shoppes at Branson Meadows. Ron Murphy and his wife Debi run the roughly 8,000-square-foot arcade, which features around 50 game machines, with room to double that total, he said. A $10 cover charge allows for unlimited play of arcade games. A dozen pinball machines that accept quarters are available, as well as event space for rent. The couple owns the business along with the group of seven owners of downtown Springfield’s 1984 arcade. Declining to disclose startup costs or lease terms, Murphy said remodeling work of the former Dress Barn was conducted over a 10-week period. Murphy retired five years ago after 30 years of employment with Associated Electric Cooperative Inc. When looking for business opportunities, he approached the owners of 1984 – where he was a customer – about starting the Branson venture.

Gloss Nail Lounge LLC
After 17 years in the nail salon industry, Sandy Park started her own business with the Dec. 3, 2018, opening of Gloss Nail Lounge LLC. She and her husband John signed a lease for 1,500 square feet in the Brentwood North shopping center, 2712 S. Glenstone Ave. Startup costs, which included infill work by Friga Construction Co. Inc., and lease terms with Jared Commercial Real Estate LLC were not disclosed. The shop offers manicures, pedicures, acrylic and dip nails, gel polish and waxing. Five employees work with Park, who previously worked at Happy Nails, her mother’s salon in Monett. Park said she and her husband, both longtime Springfieldians, wanted a shop of their own closer to home and their two children.
