The Jan. 1 opening of Bigfoot Subs marks the first business venture for U.S. Army veteran Dannie Wright. In July 2018, she purchased the 2204 W. College St. building for an undisclosed price and spent the next five months on renovations, including flooring, paint, trim and windows. Wright declined to disclose startup costs, only saying it was done on a shoestring budget. After repair money dried up, a GoFundMe crowdfunding campaign raised approximately $1,265, bringing the project to completion. The eatery, which formerly housed Tubby’s Diner, has a menu of seven submarine sandwiches, along with a rotating menu of soups and chili. Wright previously served active duty with the Army for five years, including three years in the Middle East. In 2012, she returned to Springfield, where she graduated in 2003 with a master’s degree in defense and strategic studies from Missouri State University.

ReeceNichols Real Estate
Leawood, Kansas-based ReeceNichols Real Estate on Jan. 2 acquired Re/Max Lifestyle Realty in Branson West, giving it three offices in the lakes-area market. Terms were undisclosed for the transaction that adds nine agents from the Re/Max office, said owner/broker Rick Billington, who now co-manages the ReeceNichols Branson market with David Gubin. Billington said all his agents in the 10-year-old Re/Max office were on board with the deal after he approached the leadership team at ReeceNichols about joining the firm. “When I started to look at the tools and the infrastructure that ReeceNichols had, it just looked like the way to go,” he said. The Re/Max office recorded roughly $30 million in 2017 sales volume, Billington said, adding it remains at 50 Stone Bridge Parkway in Branson West. It has been rebranded as ReeceNichols, which merged with sister company Carol Jones Realtors in June 2018.

Harbell’s Grill and Sports Bar LLC
Veteran restaurateur David Bauer on Dec. 21 bought Harbell’s Grill and Sports Bar LLC, as well as the 315 Park Central West building, from father and son Jerry and Derek Bumgarner. The Bumgarners opened the restaurant in 2011 in the former home of Har-Bell Athletic Goods. Terms of the sale were not disclosed, but Bauer said he expects to invest $30,000 in improvements to the restaurant, including new booths, paint and a renovation of the outdoor patio. Bauer said he’s also reworking the menu to include salmon and wraps to complement the sports bar favorites, like chicken wings. Bauer also owns Coyote’s Adobe Cafe on South Glenstone Avenue and formerly operated Mille’s Cafe and three other Coyote’s in Nixa, Kimberling City and downtown Springfield. Mille’s and the downtown Coyote’s both closed in 2015, and Bauer sold the building last year to JJJ Development LLC.
