New York Air Brake LLC signed a definitive agreement to purchase Nixa-based Snyder Equipment Co. Inc.

The Watertown, New York-based subsidiary of German manufacturer Knorr-Bremse AG expects to finish the Snyder Equipment merger in 12-18 months. Terms of the deal were not disclosed in a news release.

Snyder Equipment is an 83-year-old manufacturer of locomotive fueling and servicing equipment, as well as a remanufacturer of components for the railroad industry. It will become a division of NYAB, which makes air brake and train control systems.

Snyder Equipment CEO Sam Benson said the company’s 80-90 employees between its Nixa and Wheatland facilities would stay on through the acquisition. Benson added fourth-generation owner Michael Nusbaumer would stay on through year’s end. Andy Nusbaumer, another fourth-generation owner, will exit the company, Benson said.

“With the addition of Snyder’s top-line products to our portfolio, railroad and support service customers will be able to turn to NYAB as a one-stop destination for an even wider range of high-quality products and services,” NYAB President and CEO Ulisses Camilo said in the release. “Responsiveness and value for our customer is at the heart of both NYAB and Snyder.”

Snyder Equipment’s project portfolio includes work in St. Louis for Union Pacific Railroad and in Heavner, Oklahoma, for Kansas City Southern, according to its website. The company was founded in 1936.

NYAB parent company Knorr-Bremse produces annual revenue in excess of $6.8 billion, according to a separate release. Knorr-Bremse is based in Munich, Germany.
