Superintendent named at Reeds Spring

Posted online

The Reeds Spring School District board voted unanimously to hire Cody Hirschi as its next superintendent, ahead of the retirement of its embattled leader.

Hirschi, who's scheduled to start July 1, 2019, was selected among 38 candidates to lead the 1,800-student district, according to a news release. He's currently superintendent of the Mid-Buchanan School District, north of Kansas City in Faucett, and previously led Pettis County School District in Hughesville, which is 115 miles north of Springfield.

“After carefully considering all of the input from parents, the community and staff, the board felt that Dr. Hirschi was an excellent fit for the Reeds Spring School District,” said school board President Earl Johnson, referencing Hirschi's doctorate in education, in the release.

The search process included an online survey and a series of community forums, through which parents and residents indicated their most desired qualities in a superintendent were for the person to be ethical and have integrity in actions and decision-making.

Neither the release nor the online survey mentioned former district Superintendent Michael Mason, who's slated to retire at the close of the 2018-19 academic year.

Mason came under fire for allegedly making inappropriate sexual advances toward the intermediate school principal. The school district paid a $500,000 settlement last year related to the scandal, according to Ozarks First reporting.
