Springfield’s home-grown, late-night talk show is expanding to additional markets in time for its eighth season.
Jeff Houghton, the host and executive producer of “The Mystery Hour,” announced the show will debut on KCWE in Kansas City, KMYT MY41 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and WAXN TV64 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
“It's always been our goal to grow the show to new markets, and these are really exciting places to expand into,” Houghton said in a news release.
“The Mystery Hour” crew is scheduled to tape the season eight premiere tomorrow at the Gillioz Theatre. The show is scheduled to air on Saturdays starting Sept. 15 on KCWE, a CW affiliate, on Saturdays starting Sept. 22 via independent station WAXN and on Saturdays starting in October through KMYT, a MyNetworkTV affiliate.
“We want to appeal to each new market, so we may not make a specific reference to traffic on Glenstone, but we do want to be firmly from a place. We'll still be proudly from Springfield,” Houghton said in the release. “It will still be the quirky, weird humor people have come to expect and/or despise."
“The Mystery Hour” is aired on Saturday nights locally by the KRBK Fox affiliate, which is under contract to be purchased by a subsidiary of Nexstar Media Group Inc. (Nasdaq: NXST). It also runs on Fox 14 in Joplin and ABC 6 News KAAL in Rochester, Minnesota, according to the show’s website.
The season eight debut is scheduled to feature interviews with food TV personality Simon Majumdar, local photographer Julie Blackmon and New York Times best-selling comic book writer Cullen Bunn, according to the release.
