Missouri State University’s new student-funded Taylor Health and Wellness Center is currently open for patient care.
MSU students voted to impose a $29 fee per semester beginning in 2015 to cover annual bond payments for the $13 million center, which doubled the space of the previous health center.
“It gives peace of mind to students knowing that we can obtain quality, affordable care in many areas of health and wellness,” said Brandon McCoy, MSU's student body president, in a news release. “All without having to even leave campus.”
Located at the corner of Bear Boulevard and Florence Avenue, the center includes a full-service pharmacy with a drive-through, travel clinic, 33 examination rooms and an on-site lab. There is also consultant space for clinic, including dermatology, gynecology, orthopedics, dietetics, diabetic counseling and psychiatry. Hours at the center have expanded to include an evening and Saturday morning clinic.
The Taylor Health and Wellness Center employs six full-time physicians in family and internal medicine, in addition to occasional specialty consultants. It also now houses the Counseling Center, formerly based in Carrington Hall, a sports medicine clinic and the Dr. Lisa Drabinowicz Women’s Center.
“This legacy building with enhanced features will allow the Missouri State community to continue to receive the best health and wellness care for generations to come,” said Dr. Frederick Muegge, director of health and wellness services, in the release.
There will be a dedication ceremony at 11 a.m. April 9 at the center located at 1141 Bear Blvd.
