Longtime Silver Dollar City ride demolished

Posted online

One of Silver Dollar City’s staple rides has been demolished after 34 years.

Lost River of the Ozarks last month was torn down to make way for a new development, said spokeswoman Lisa Rau.

“We put up a fence and we’re not telling what it is,” Rau said this morning. “It’s very exciting. I can guarantee that.”

Family-friendly Lost River of the Ozarks opened in 1985. Six-person rafts propelled riders down the man-made whitewater river of the $2 million attraction.

Rau declined to disclose whether another roller coaster or water ride is planned, though she said the new attraction would open in 2020, to coincide with SDC’s 60th anniversary.

Rau said crews are actively working on the site.

“Their progress is moving quickly largely due to the magnitude,” she said.

Silver Dollar City this month announced record attendance numbers of 2.18 million guests in 2018 after opening its costliest coaster to date: Time Traveler, clocking in at $26 million.

Silver Dollar City publicist Dalton Fischer has said a record 518,000 visitors – up 12,000 guests from last year – also traveled to the park for holiday attraction An Old Time Christmas, which ended Dec. 30. SDC recently was voted the best holiday theme park in the United States by USA Today readers.

It also was named the fourth-best amusement park in the nation in a June USA Today poll.
