Instacart Inc. this month is slated to launch its grocery delivery service in Springfield.
The San Francisco-based company will offer its service — available online and through an app — to Springfield and Battlefield residents starting Aug. 15. The company is adding more than 96,000 households as potential customers with the move, according to a news release.
“Over the past year we’ve seen incredible demand in the Springfield area,” said Sapna Mitchell, senior operations manager at Instacart, in the release. “Launching in Springfield gives us an opportunity to expand service in Missouri.”
The service will start locally with retailers including Hy-Vee, CVS Pharmacy and PetCo.
With the launch, Instacart plans to hire more than 100 shoppers who would accept orders through their smartphones, buy products at stores and deliver them to customers, according to the release.
Since its inception in 2012, Instacart has expanded to some 275 markets in North America. It promises deliveries “in as little as one hour.”
