General Mills to buy pet food maker for $8B

General Mills agreed to acquire Blue Buffalo Pet Products for nearly $8 billion.

The cash offer represents a premium of 17.2 percent to Blue Buffalo's Thursday closing price.

The deal would mark Minneapolis-based Cheerios cereal maker General Mills' entry into the pet food business.
