Project description: The Wooten Co. is adding nine buildings and 255 units to James River Self Storage. It currently has nearly 500 units, including two climate-controlled buildings, said Kent Smith of general contractor Kenmar Construction. Smith said his firm built the storage facility’s first phase 10 years ago. “It rented out full after two years and has pretty much stayed full,” he said. For the second phase, Smith said crews contended with steep grading on the north end of the property. “We took out almost 12 feet of dirt to level the site,” he said. The new construction includes another climate-controlled building and some recreational vehicle storage. He said it also will have gated access with security by an on-site manager.
The Republic School District is on track to open its Intermediate School for fifth- and sixth-grade students for the 2025-26 academic year.
