Former Mercy COO returns to lead rehab hospital

Posted online

Former Mercy Hospital Springfield Chief Operating Officer Jay Guffey is returning to lead the health system’s local rehabilitation hospital, Springfield Business Journal has confirmed.

A call to Mercy Rehabilitation Hospital Springfield was referred to employee Melissa Campbell, who said Guffey is scheduled to start Feb. 12 as CEO of the 5904 S. Southwood Road center. She said current CEO Bruce Eady is moving to a different position within Mercy. Rehab hospital spokeswoman Tasha Ganson referred questions to Mercy Media Relations Specialist Sonya Kullmann.

Kullmann and Guffey could not be reached for comment by deadline. Guffey’s LinkedIn page also shows he’s now CEO at the Mercy rehab hospital after more than a year as vice president of administration for Jordan Valley Community Health Center. Eady’s LinkedIn page does not show a change.

At Jordan Valley, an employee who answered the phone said Guffey no longer works at the downtown health center.

After Guffey left Mercy in June 2016, he took the job at Jordan Valley in September that year. Brent Hubbard assumed Guffey’s role as COO that August, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting.
