The former Evangel University Business Department chairman came out of retirement to start working for Pure & Clean LLC.
Bernie Dana said he joined the Nixa-based distributor of disinfectants and sanitizers on Jan. 3 as its first chief operating officer. Pure & Clean issued a news release about the hire this morning.
Dana joins Pure & Clean from Evangel, where he last worked as an adjunct business faculty member and adviser for the school’s Enactus team until his May 2018 retirement. After joining Evangel in 2001, he became Business Department chairman in March 2011 and served in that role until retiring from it in May 2016. He previously worked for 28 years as a corporate executive and management consultant, including 14 years as executive vice president of senior housing operator Vetter Health Services.
“It’s a huge shift from education back to the real world of business,” Dana said by phone this morning. “I thought I was retiring, but I got tired of watching Hallmark movies.”
At Pure & Clean, Dana said he’s in charge of strategic planning and keeping the company’s systems and structure up to date.
“They saw the need to have somebody come in and help them streamline processes that we have,” he said.
Dana said Pure & Clean, which started off selling cleansers to the sports industry, has expanded into the medical world with first aid and wound cleansers. The company is now moving into the vision industry.
Pure & Clean produced a 96 percent increase in 2018 sales to $350,000, and this year, Dana said “things are in place to hit $10 million. I’d be shocked if it’s not at least $5.” He declined to disclose why the company estimates hitting those sales targets.
“They’re great at pursuing opportunities for growth,” he said.
Pure & Clean LLC was registered with the Missouri secretary of state in 2013. Pure & Clean Vision LLC was registered in September 2018.
Utah-based gourmet cookie chain Crumbl Cookies opened its first Springfield shop; interior design business Branson Upstaging LLC relocated; and Lauren Ashley Dance Center LLC added a second location.
