Nine foreclosure sales are scheduled in the coming weeks for properties owned by Chris Gatley or his embattled company 417 Rentals LLC.
The latest foreclosure sales, according to today’s edition of legal-notices publication The Daily Events, involve properties with combined debt loads of $3.9 million. The Daily Events publishes trustee’s sales notices after receiving information from the successor trustee attorneys in the cases.
The largest foreclosure is slated for 2 p.m. Feb. 28 at the south front door of the Greene County Courthouse, 940 N. Boonville Ave. The note amount is $548,520 for lots in several residential subdivisions, including Webster Park, Woodland Heights and South Haven.
All but one of the nine upcoming foreclosure sales combine multiple properties in various subdivisions; a foreclosure for a single residential property at 1942 E. Commercial St. has a recorded amount of $43,360. The sales are scheduled to be held Feb. 27-March 12, according to The Daily Events.
The foreclosures stem from a judge’s denial of 417 Rentals’ bankruptcy petition in January. Eleven days after the court decision, Gatley was transported to a local hospital with a gunshot wound. Springfield Police Department Cpl. James Craigmyle, who serves as public relations coordinator, this morning said via email he was unsure about Gatley’s health status. Officials originally said he was in critical condition.
The denial of the Chapter 11 bankruptcy petition, first filed in mid-2017, essentially freed up banks to move forward on additional foreclosures. In an amended reorganization plan submitted to the court on Aug. 10, 2018, 417 Rentals indicated it had loan balances at a dozen local banks. The combined fair market value of the properties is more than $32 million, SBJ previously reported.
417 Rentals has faced scrutiny on social media and in local news media for allegedly overcharging tenants and failing to make repairs, among other issues, according to past reporting. In court, the city of Springfield alleged 417 Rentals did not abide by claims it would maintain its properties, complete necessary repairs and respond to ordinance violations, according to court documents.
An attempt to reach Gatley or other 417 Rentals officials through the company’s phone number was unsuccessful this morning, as no one answered before a voicemail prompt. Previous messages left at the phone number have not been returned.
