E-commerce agency makes third move

An 8-year-old Springfield e-commerce agency is preparing for its third move in Springfield that will double its office space.

OMG Commerce will complete the move Monday to a 4,000-square-foot leased space at 319 N. Main St., Ste. 130, which also houses BRP Architects and other tenants, said co-founder Chris Brewer. The company is relocating from 1050 E. Walnut St., Ste. A.

He said the firm is on track to hit 30 employees next year with room to expand at its new office. The company employs 26 currently, with a handful of staff working remotely from California, New York, New Jersey and Alabama.

Back in 2010, when the firm worked out 1031 E. Battlefield Road, OMG Commerce was known only as Online Marketing Giant LLC. Brewer said the company didn't specialize in e-commerce starting out, but rather worked with local clients on paid search marketing and search engine optimization.

“About four or five years ago, my business partner started getting into Google shopping,” he said of CEO Brett Curry. “We did a guide with Shopify called ‘The Ultimate Guide to Google Shopping.’”

“Since then, our revenues have essentially flipped,” Brewer added, noting 80 percent of the company’s work is in e-commerce.

That’s when the executive team, led by Brewer, Curry and Chief Operating Officer Sarah Edwards, created sister company OMG Commerce. Customers who abbreviated Online Marketing Giant to OMG helped coin the name. Online Marketing Giant continues to operate.

The company works with businesses such as Xero Shoes, a self-described “barefoot sandals” company which appeared on ABC’s “Shark Tank”; Native, a natural deodorant company; and Groove Life, which makes silicone wedding rings.

Brewer declined to disclose annual revenue, only saying it was in the millions of dollars. He said company growth points back to honing “people, products and processes.”

“Getting to our first million in sales is kind of the first hurdle. We hit that a few years ago and it’s just been with the changes that we made making steady progress from there,” he said. “Revenues have grown as we have worked on getting the right people and getting great processes.”

Brewer said OMG Commerce targets companies making at least $2 million annually in e-commerce sales. He said OMG Commerce has a minimum of $2,500 for services.

“We’re really looking for companies that can spend at least $10,000 a month on Google to get started, so we have enough data to make good decisions,” he said.

The fastest-growing space for the company is Amazon Advertising, he said, noting OMG Commerce is one of the few e-commerce companies specializing in this space.

Brewer said OMG Commerce doesn’t work with any local companies, but Online Marketing Giant does work with some local businesses, such as Parmele Law Firm PC.

In addition to its online services, CEO Curry hosts a podcast called “eCommerce Evolution.” It’s produced 60 episodes since January 2017, averaging 2,000-3,000 downloads, Brewer said.
