Gratitude in Leadership

Several mentors in my life have helped transform me into the leader I am today. Two great influencers in my leadership journey were Drs. Marc and Kelly Barnett. I had the pleasure of working with them for 10 years, where they taught me many things about being a leader.

One lesson I learned was to address small issues before they become big problems. They helped me to start recognizing trends and small details so that one can make small adjustments quickly. They set goals and always had the end in mind. This has helped me to recognize and plan the big picture.

I can still hear them saying to me, “You’re either growing...or you’re dying.” And to me, that “growing” means a constant process of improving: improving your skills, improving your communication, improving your relationships, improving your working conditions, and encouraging those around you.

At Excel Dental, our team is the most valuable asset that allows us to attract our amazing patients. I love to invest in these women on our team and one way we grow together is to read and review a book every month.

Another important key that I’ve added is to begin in gratitude. Every morning, we have a positive motivational quote. It’s amazing how the team will now bring the perfect words of encouragement. Gratitude not expressed will come across as ingratitude.

I hope I am building up others and giving other women the courage and confidence to become the best leader they can be. I still have a lot more to learn and many things to improve, but by encouraging those around me, together we are all better!
