Downtown establishment Social on Patton is scheduled to close this summer.
Robert Sonnemaker, who owns the 314 S. Patton Ave. restaurant and bar with his wife Carrie, pointed to a post on Social’s website indicating the closure date is June 30.
“After putting forth our best effort to provide Springfield a unique dining experience coupled with fine art in one of Springfield’s most amazing historic downtown spaces, we’ve been unable to attract the patronage required to sustain operations,” the post reads.
Social on Patton operates in the Rogers and Baldwin building, where the property’s owner, Scott Tillman, once operated Hickok’s Steakhouse & Brewery.
The establishment started as a spin-off of City Butcher and Barbecue called CB Social House in 2016. It took on the Social name in early 2018 under new ownership.
Social on Patton is known for special events such as R & D Night, where guests can get a sneak peek at future menu options, according to its website.
At least three of Social’s operators are involved in another venture.
Doug Riddle, Social’s beverage manager, and Daniel Stern, executive chef, are working on a new concept in the Rountree neighborhood called Team Taco, according to Social's website. Team Taco is located at the former Elle’s Patisserie; Greene County assessor and secretary of state records show Sonnemaker is the owner of the 1454 E. Cherry St. property.
Reached on Facebook Messenger this morning, Riddle estimated Team Taco would open by the end of June. In the meantime, they’ve operated a food truck and pop-up restaurants, according to Team Taco’s Facebook page.
