CU estimates electric price savings

Posted online

City Utilities officials are estimating residential customers will pay less for electricity during the coming months.

CU estimates customers who use 1,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per month will pay roughly $5.90 less per month from October through March 2019 compared with the same time period a year earlier. Estimates put the total at $7.72 less per month than the 10-year average fuel rate, according to a news release. The estimates do not factor commercial rates.

Based on projected fuel costs for the next six months versus the actual cost of fuel used during previous periods, the adjustment is made semiannually.

If the $5.90 per month estimate holds true, customers would pay $35.40 less during the six-month period.

Natural gas customers also can expect lower bills, according to the release.

CU customers using natural gas are expected to pay 21 cents less per month during the six-month period, for total savings of $1.20 compared with the prior year.
