Cox Medical Center Branson yesterday broke ground on a $12 million expansion project.
Scheduled for completion in fall 2019, the project will bring a new central utility plant to the former Skaggs Regional Medical Center in Branson, according to information provided by CoxHealth spokeswoman Kaitlyn McConnell. CoxHealth purchased Skaggs in 2013.
The plant would be a three-story, 28,000-square-foot addition to the Branson hospital, 525 Branson Landing Blvd.
At the plant, CoxHealth will consolidate the Branson hospital’s utility equipment into one building to serve as a “controlled environment for efficient maintenance and extended life,” according to the CoxHealth materials.
“It is part of a 10-year comprehensive master plan to serve present and future needs of the facility by providing reduced utility and maintenance costs, greater efficiency and redundancy of major building systems,” the materials read.
The project is not the first expansion in Branson since CoxHealth took over Skaggs.
After buying Skaggs in 2013, Cox Medical Center Branson that same year broke ground on a $30.8 million project bringing a new emergency department and an expanded coronary care unit, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.
