Council picks 7 finalists for Fulnecky’s vacant seat

Springfield City Council met yesterday to narrow the field of candidates to seven from 15 for the seat recently left vacant by Kristi Fulnecky.

Council is scheduled to interview the finalists on Oct. 25. The General Seat C selection would serve through the April 2, 2019, election, according to a news release. The process was set in motion a month ago when Fulnecky submitted her resignation as she moved her primary residence outside of Springfield city limits to Nixa.

“They may make a decision at that time, but they also may narrow the field,” Springfield spokeswoman Cora Scott said of the Oct. 25 interview date.

The seven finalists for the open council seat, in alphabetical order, are:
    •    Amy Champlin, participant in the Citizens Police Academy Alumni group;
    •    Kevin Evans, professor of geology at Missouri State University;
    •    AJ Exner, sales and marketing representative for Dynamic DNA Labs;
    •    Andrew Lear, retired partner and certified public accountant with BKD LLP;
    •    Theresa Martin, community volunteer for Rescue One and the Mayor’s Commission on Human Rights;
    •    Natalie McGuire, former sales representative for Quintiles Pharmaceutical/Sanofi; and
    •    Charles Pettijohn, retired associate professor of marketing at Drury University.

Fulnecky’s council term was set to expire in April 2019, along with those of the mayor and four other council seats.
