Cooper Tennis Complex to undergo $500K renovation

The Springfield-Greene County Park Board is upgrading Cooper Tennis Complex.

The Park Board announced $500,000 in interior renovations scheduled for June and July, according to a news release.

Plans call for the replacement of lights with updated LED fixtures; the resurfacing of tennis courts, interior vinyl wall and ceiling coverings; the installation of new nets and posts; the replacement of vinyl court divider curtains; and painting work.

The upgrades primarily will be financed through the Cooper Family Foundation, as well as some operational funding from the Park Board. The tennis complex is named after Harry and Jack Cooper, the primary donors and namesake of the park, according to the release. Harry Cooper died in April 2018 at age 91.

Located at 2331 E. Pythian St., Cooper Tennis Complex comprises 12 indoor courts, 17 outdoor lighted courts and a 2,500-seat stadium. In 2016, the Cooper family donated $1 million toward a $4 million renovation and addition of the tennis complex, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.
