The city of Springfield’s latest sales tax check from the Missouri Department of Revenue pointed to an increase in the spring.
Reflecting transactions made mostly in April and processed by the state in May, the June check of $4.4 million was up 11% compared with the same month of 2018, according to a news release.
The latest check brings year-to-date collections up 2.8% to $46.7 million, compared with $45.4 million at the end of fiscal 2018. The city’s next fiscal year starts on July 1.
The June check from the state also beat city officials’ predictions. Revenues were up by roughly 2% both for the month and year to date compared with city budget employees’ expectations, according to the release.
Springfield uses sales tax revenue from the Department of Revenue to fund the Police and Fire departments and other public services. Roughly 56% of the city’s general fund comes from sales and use taxes.
Utah-based gourmet cookie chain Crumbl Cookies opened its first Springfield shop; interior design business Branson Upstaging LLC relocated; and Lauren Ashley Dance Center LLC added a second location.
