Chicago banker charged with bribery in seeking Trump post

Posted online

Federal prosecutors charged Chicago banker Stephen Calk with bribery.

Calk, according to the prosecutors, allegedly issues $16 million in loans to a senior official in Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign, in exchange for a post in his administration.

Though he isn't named in court papers, Crain's Chicago Business reports the description of the senior official matches that of Paul Manafort, Trump's former campaign chairman.

Manafort was accused in special counsel Robert Mueller’s report of lying to three banks, including Calk's, to receive around $20 million in loans.

"Mr. Calk has done nothing wrong and will be exonerated at trial of the baseless isolated charge brought against him," said Calk's lawyer, Jeremy Margolis.
