CBD store operator Canna Bliss LLC has plans in the works for four southwest Missouri medical marijuana dispensaries.

Owner Jamie Tillman on Friday bought a lot at 1109 E. Battlefield Road, which includes the former Shop N’ Go gas station, as a step in her application to open a dispensary in 2020. She declined to disclose terms of the deal.

“We are being as proactive as we possibly can,” Tillman said. “Part of having a license is having your location locked down.”

Through Canna Bliss, Tillman operates two Springfield CBD stores at 210 W. Republic Road, Ste. 100., and 1937 S. Glenstone Ave., as well as a location in Lebanon. She hopes to receive state licenses to operate each Canna Bliss store as a medical marijuana dispensary. The Republic Road location opened in September 2018, followed by the Lebanon store in February and the other Springfield shop in April.

The state officially will begin accepting dispensary license applications on Aug. 3, a process scheduled to last through Dec. 31. However, 277 applications already have been prefiled, with 39 coming from southwest Missouri, according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. If approved, licenses will be granted within 150 days of the department receiving the application during the August to December timeframe. A $6,000 nonrefundable application fee and a $10,000 annual fee are required for dispensary facilities, according to the department.

At the Battlefield Road lot — kitty-corner to Andy B's Entertainment & Bowling Centers’ Springfield attraction — Tillman plans to remodel the 2,000-square-foot gas station and add 1,800 square feet to the original building. She said project costs are expected to be at least $1 million, with Rio Contracting LLC on as general contractor.

Tillman said the addition will be available for lease, and she’s looking for a medical physician to join the Canna Bliss crew to write prescriptions. She anticipates employing 12 at the store.

If granted a dispensary license, Tillman said she expects to open the Battlefield Road store by February. If Canna Bliss does not receive a license, she said the space most likely would be used as another CBD shop.
