Business Spotlight: A Spectrum of Care

2B Well houses multiple natural health services in one spot

2B Well LLC offers yoga, massage, facials and more, but it’s more than just a relaxation space. The operators call it a “yoga and integrative health center” that brings together natural health professionals.

In April 2014, owner Brandy Hickman took over a new lease in a Galloway Village building previously occupied by yoga studio Success Naturally. Hickman’s own personal health made her realize she was ready to pursue a more comprehensive passion besides yoga, brining multiple natural health providers together.

“At 30, I was diagnosed with colon cancer,” Hickman says. “From that, I started to really research and learn from a yoga, naturopath, nutrition and massage perspective, in addition to my other medical professionals.”

Hickman went back to school for health coaching and hormone certification through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition online, and after forming 2B Well, her vision grew from there. The center is expanding services over time, she says, and it’s now up to 11 independent contractors offering massage to music therapy.

Natural health and regular medicine practices go well together, Hickman says.

“I don’t think of it as ‘this’ or ‘that,’” she says. “That was really important to me. It is synergistic. We may not be so much up to speed, in our town yet, but I feel like there’s a shift happening. Our clients that come in every day aren’t looking to just fix a problem, but preventing problems.”

2B Well has two employees, who help with administrative work. The contractors are professionally certified for their own individual businesses operating out of 2B Well.

Each contractor pays fees to 2B Well based on the scope of needed administrative and marketing services and rent within the building. On average, the contract care providers pay 2B Well $800-$850 per month.

Hickman says coming together in one place made a lot of sense, and they save on expenses.

“Having the marketing ability together is extremely helpful,” she says. “Sometimes you feel kind of lonely in individual businesses, especially in holistic things. This just helps us be a whole.”

While Hickman manages the contractors, she also provides nutrition counseling and yoga some instruction. Other contractors are Denise Bischof, life coach and yoga teacher; Katrina Bogdon, naturopathic medicine; Bonnie Baumberger, counselor; Tanya Whipple, psychologist; Kyle Rouse, esthetician; Tara Marie Rigger, Brandy Kasperski and Diane Troup, massage therapists; Abba Anderson, acupuncturist; and Leslie Jones, music therapist.

“My mission for all is to have a space that is supportive for everyone,” Hickman says. “For the clients, the patients, but also for the providers that are in that space. I want it safe and supportive for everyone that walks in the door.”

Hickman says 2B Well brought in $250,000 last year, but factoring independent contractor revenues, all businesses combined generated $700,000 in revenue.

A challenge the business faces, though, is that many natural health services often aren’t covered by health insurance, and 2B Well currently doesn’t accept insurance plans.

Debbie Tarburton, a retired farmer, moved with her husband from their family farm in Kentucky to be closer to her children and grandchild. Tarburton says she found 2B Well while searching for a naturopath.

“I’m a cancer survivor, so I’ve always had a naturopath to round out my medical treatments,” she says. “In doing research online, I hadn’t found anyone with the same background as (Bogdon).”

Tarburton says she likes that Bogdon had experience working at the Cancer Center of America in Tulsa, Oklahoma, prior to 2B Well. Tarburton also takes part in massage, facials from the esthetician and has taken restorative yoga classes.

“My husband and I have always had a massage regime,” she says. “Maybe it was because of the farm work that we did the massage. It is such strenuous work.”
