Twenty southern Missouri nonprofits will spend the month of April fundraising through Community Foundation of the Ozark Inc.’s Cause Momentum.

Cause Momentum is an online fundraising platform at CauseMomentum.org, founded five years ago to help nonprofits garner awareness and raise money for specific community projects. Founded in 2012, the platform operates year round for project-based funding, typically running for 30-45 days.

This is the first year Community Foundation has designated April as the Month of Momentum to work with charity partners on fine-tuning digital marketing skills while raising funds.

Out of 30 applicants, a volunteer committee in January selected the 20 nonprofits.

“Online giving has grown at a significant rate over the last several years, and it’s not slowing down,” Community Foundation President and CEO Brian Fogle said in a news release. “We’re very pleased to help our agency partners find new ways of reaching tech-savvy donors who want to make an impact on their communities.”

The nonprofits participating this year, in alphabetical order, are Court Appointed Special Advocates of Southwest Missouri, Dogwood Ranch Corp., Drew Lewis Foundation Inc., Freedom’s Rest Family Violence Center, Friends of Abilities First Inc., Friends of the Zoo, Good Samaritan Boys Ranch, GYN Cancers Alliance, Include Ozarks, Isabel’s House, Downtown Joplin Alliance/Joplin Empire Market, Music Therapy of the Ozarks, Poplar Bluff Kiwanis Inc., Sculpture Walk Springfield, The Springfield Little Theatre, Springfield Victory Mission Inc., The Summit Preparatory School of Southwest Missouri, Texas County Food Pantry Inc., The Victim Center Inc. and Whole Kids Outreach Inc.

Representatives from the nonprofits attended training sessions regarding how to best utilize Cause Momentum and market their fundraising. Each organization received a $500 implementation grant, according to the news release. The nonprofits use digital promotion efforts and one-on-one planning sessions with marketing company Mostly Serious LLC.

“The training focused on ways of sharing a nonprofit’s story, strategies for promoting a monthlong project online and tools available for creating digital images and videos,” the release said.

Some of the most recent projects with Cause Momentum include Chromebook for Students Campaign with Clearwater School Foundation, Tom Billionis Memorial Plaque with Downtown Springfield Association and purchasing equipment for archival purposes with the History Museum on the Square.
