The children of White River Brewing Co. founder John “Buz” Hosfield have put the Commercial Street business up for sale.

Hosfield died March 25, about seven years after starting White River Brewing at 505 W. Commercial St. The business has continued to operate after his death.

Dave Hosfield and Carol Leandro, John Hosfield’s son and daughter, respectively, hired the Springfield-Branson office of VR Business Sales as the broker for the listing. Professional Real Estate LLC, VR’s sister company, was brought on to list the real estate, located at the C-Street intersection with Lyon Avenue.

Hosfield and Leandro are asking $204,000 for the business and $745,000 for the 9,313-square-foot brick building, according to information provided by VR Business Sales principal broker Jerry Myers.

“The children do not live in Missouri and have never worked in any brewing business,” a review of the business provided by VR reads. “They wish to transition the business to someone that will continue their father’s vision and legacy.”

The business review also indicates White River Brewing made $338,627 in 2018 revenue.

White River ranked No. 3 on Springfield Business Journal’s list this year of the area’s largest breweries. The company reported 1,500 barrels produced in 2018.

When it opened in 2012, only Springfield Brewing Co. and 2011 startup Mother’s Brewing Co. operated in the market, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting.

The local craft beer scene has since grown with the additions of Tie & Timber Beer Co., 4 by 4 Brewing Co. LLC, Lost Signal Brewing Co., Great Escape Beer Works LLC and Show-Me Brewing. Hold Fast Brewing is scheduled to open this month at a former downtown fire station.
